Eileen (Kozlowski) Borg passed away 4 May 2023 in her home at the age of 90. She was born 21 January 1933 and grew up on Kedzie Ave in the Humboldt Park neighborhood of Chicago to Stephen (D) and Josephine (D) Kozlowski. Eileen attended Tuley High School and after graduation enrolled in the nursing school at Saint Elizabeth’s Hospital and became a Registered Nurse.
Eileen married the love of her life Edward Borg (D) in 1959. They were together for almost 30 years before Edward passed away in 1988. She continued to live in the family home in Schiller Park until her death. After marrying, Eileen and Edward started their family, having six children to fill their happy home. Eileen was a stay-at-home mom until her youngest started school, at which point she returned to nursing. She worked at Gottlieb Memorial Hospital in Melrose Park for over 30 years, finally retiring after her 70th birthday. Nursing was not a job to her; it was her calling.
After retirement, Eileen spent much of her time doting over her family as it continued to grow, gaining sons and daughters-in-law and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. At the time of her death, Eileen had 18 grandchildren, 11 greatgrandchildren, and unknown to her, a great, great grandchild is on the way. Eileen was an “honorary mom” to many of her children’s friends from childhood through adulthood and was known as “Auntie Eileen” throughout the neighborhood.
Eileen spent time traveling with family and friends, visiting places such as Alaska, Hawaii, Washington DC, New York, Texas, etc. She enjoyed spending social time doing activities like ceramics and being part of a Seniors Club. Eileen was also very civic minded, volunteering during emergencies by aiding with inoculations and spending time providing aid and comfort to neighbors and members of the National Guard.
Eileen had a long, meaningful, and satisfying life. She loved her family and friends deeply, and they loved her just as much. She always had a smile on her face and found the good in all people, and on occasion, made everyone laugh with her sarcasm. Her life has shown how much meaning one person can have to the world around her. Though she has left us and we are saddened by her loss, it is comforting to know that she and her husband Edward are back at each other’s sides after almost 35 years of being apart.
