Estelle Magdalena (Filar) Zaczek, age 92, died on April 25, 2011 at Sunrise Assisted Living in Glen Ellyn, Illinois. She was born on May 23, 1918, in Chicago, the daughter of Ludwig and Anna (Szot) Filar. She married Edward Walter Zaczek on May 30, 1940, and they lived in Chicago until 1955 when they moved to Franklin Park. After her children were older, she worked at the Franklin Park Library for many years and showed her artwork there. Several of her paintings include scenes from the family's Wisconsin cabin in the northwoods. She liked gardening and was a good cook, skilled at Polish specialties. Her love of music led to her children learning to read and appreciate it as well. She is survived by two sisters, Fran and Dorothy (Skucek), and one brother, Joe (Hilde); four children, Edrie (Edd) Massart, Karen (Doug) Hill, Tom (Barb), and Jim (Denise); eight grandchildren, Michael, Denise (Bob), Mark, Emily (Ethan), Natalie, Alex, Nick, and Luke; and one great grandchild, Lily; and eight nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Stanley, Chester, Ray (Ann), Steve (Florence); a sister, Sue (Bud); a grandson, Scott; three sisters-in-law, Helen Moreau, Stephanie Boggess, and Loretta; one brother-in-law Stanley; and one niece. The family extends their gratitude to the caring staff of Sunrise and Odyssey Hospice.
