Frances Filar

Frances (Fran) Josephine Filar, age 93, died on October 19, 2014 at Atria (formerly Sunrise) Assisted Living in Glen Ellyn, Illinois. She was born on March 8, 1921, in Chicago, the daughter of Ludwig and Anna (Szot) Filar. She lived in Chicago until 1955 when she moved to Franklin Park, living there until 2010 when she moved to Atria. She worked at Teletype (AT&T) for 25 years. She loved to dance, and in her earlier years, spent several nights a week at the Aragon Ballroom in downtown Chicago with friends. She is survived by her brother Joe (Hilde), and sister Dorothy Skucek, three nieces, six nephews and their families. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Stanley, Chester, Ray (Ann), Steve (Florence), two sisters, Sue (Bud) Alfstad, and Estelle (Ed) Zaczek, and two nieces. Fran was loving and well-loved, and cared for several family members throughout her life. The family extends much gratitude to the special staff of Atria and Harbor Light Hospice. In lieu of flowers, please feel free to contribute to the American Heart Association or other charity of your choice. Visitation is Tuesday, October 21, 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. The funeral is Wednesday, 9 a.m. from Sax-Tiedemann Funeral Home, 9568 Belmont Ave., Franklin Park, to St. Gertrude Church for mass at 9:30 a.m. and interment at Maryhill Cemetery.
