Frank Merkendorfer

Frank R Merkendorfer, 91 of Schiller Park, was born on December 21, 1933, passed

away peacefully in his home in the presence of his family on Wednesday, February 19,

2025. Preceded in death by his parents and his sisters Ethel and Irene, his son Mark,

and his beloved wife Shirley. He is survived by his children, Frank (Carrie)

Merkendorfer, Kurt (Sandy) Merkendorfer, Tracy (Steve) Evans, grandchildren Franz

(Cecilia) Merkendorfer, Suzette (Chris) Cuellar, Ryan (Rebecca) Gribbens, Kurtie

Merkendorfer, Zach Merkendorfer, Brynn Tijerina, Sofia Evans, and great grandchildren

Marc Gribbens, Leighton Merkendorfer and Franzie Merkendofer.

Frank grew up in Logan Square and went to Lane Tech High School. At an early age,

he was a tremendous athlete. He could run like the wind, enjoyed weight lifting, boxing,

and martial arts. But his favorite hobbies were dancing and singing. He had a love for

music which carried on down the family tree. He also fought and served for our country

and was a decorated Korean War Veteran. One of his first jobs coming out of the

service was at Auto Clutch. He then had a custom curtain and furniture cover business

as a young man. Then was a plant manager at Illinois Toolworks Fastex Division. He

retired as head of production at West Agro. At that point, he joined the VFW Post 3579

in Park Ridge/Niles, where he served as Commander for 10 years, one of the longest

tenure in recent years. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-

grandfather, and a great friend to all who knew him. His life is a testimony to his love for

his family and his country.

A visitation will be held Monday, February 24th from 3-8pm

Army presentation at Eden’s Cemetery on Irving Park Rd in Schiller Park, IL.
