Gordon W. Hermanson

On Saturday, May 25, 2024, Gordon Wallace Hermanson, loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, passed away at the age of 93.

Gordon was born on May 2, 1931, in Chicago, Illinois, to Everet and Signe Hermanson.
Gordon spent his childhood and school-age years in the Franklin Park area and graduated from East Leyden High School.
He then received his bachelor’s degree in education from Northern Illinois University in Dekalb, Illinois.

After college, Gordon worked as an Accountant for General Electric for over 35 years and also worked nights as a bartender and cook with his brothers at their parents’ restaurant, the SSS tavern. (SSS is an acronym for the three Swedes).
Gordon retired from G.E. in 1990.
In retirement, Gordon wanted to stay busy so, for reasons unknown to his family, he worked as a substitute teacher at Hester Junior High in Franklin Park.
He also took the train to downtown Chicago to do part-time accounting work for some of his relatives.

Most recently, Gordon’s passion was gardening, rooting for the Bears, Blackhawks, and Cubs and going to his grandchildren’s sporting events.
Gordon also fancied himself as a party planner in which he organized many events for the Franklin Park Social Club and his high school reunions.
He was also widely known for his homemade salsa and deviled eggs.

Gordon was a fun-loving person with a dry sense of humor and transformed the lives of everyone he encountered.
He was also a good dancer and could always be found on the dance floor at social events and weddings.
Gordon also had a remarkable ability to connect with people as evidenced by his many friends and people that knew him.

Gordon was preceded in death by his parents, Everet and Signe, brothers Erwin and Donald and his son, Scott.
He is survived by his wife of over 63 years, Joan, his children, Leah (Gill) Davis, Chris, and Stacy (Tony) Hastings, daughter-in-law Jena Hermanson, and grandchildren, Drew (Ashley) Davis, Brendan Davis, Danae Davis (Les Hansen), Nicole Davis (Jeff Carvajal), Drew, Noah, Isabel, Gavin, Kendall, Nathan, and Caleigh, and great grandchildren, Mia, D.J and Roman.
