Orlando Marrero

Orlando Marrero died peacefully at home on Sunday October 20, 2024, at the age of 72.
Born in the beauty of Ciales, Puerto Rico on June 1st, 1952, Orlando was a loving husband and caregiver to his wife Yvette Rodriguez.

Beloved son of Emilio, Nelida, Melvin J, and Sue.

Kind brother to Emilio, Pati, David, Barry, Pamela, Stuart, Phil, Sara, Daria, Latisha, Nellie, Wanda, Josephine, Dealia, and Lady.

Orlando was a caring and kind father to Denise, Kenneth (Kenny), David, Jasmin, Gabriel, Francisco (Frankie), Casey (Boo Boo), Ileana, Venus, and Carlos.

Cherished Grandfather to Giovanni, Alyssa, Miranda, Leilani, Nathaniel, Aiden, Laila, Iveliss, Eliot, Valentino, Zariah, Samuel, Johann, Jubilee, Isaiah, Eira, Brooklyn, Jaxson, Logan, and Zoey. He was also looking forward to a grandchild who will join the family soon.

Adored Uncle to many nieces and nephews.

Orlando grew up in Puerto Rico, and then in Chicago where he met his best friend and brother David Glaser. He joined the Army at a young age and was stationed in Germany. After the Army he returned to live in the Chicagoland area where he stayed the rest of his life. He worked as a delivery driver who had an amazing ability to navigate like he was born with an internal compass. He had a passion for sports and loved the Chicago Cubs and Bears. He was a great softball player on many teams over the years passing on the love for baseball to his children. He also loved to bowl through his entire life where his children have found memories of playing in the Arcade while he enjoyed time with many friends and family. He joined his last bowling team “All In” with his son Boo Boo along with mentoring team “DX” with his son Gabriel and nephew Pito.

Orlando has been a dog lover his whole life. He often took in dogs in need. His dogs would join him for work in his van and kept him company all day. Moe, his last dog, never wanted to leave his side till the end.
