Life long Fontana, WI summer resident, Pierce G. Tyrrell passed away peacefully under the care of the St. Thomas Hospice in La Grange, Illinois on August 25, 2015.
Pierce was born in Elgin, Il November 7, 1920.
He graduated from Purdue University in 1942 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He spent his career in engineering related work, first with aircraft, then heavy duty transmission equipment.
Pierce worked briefly for McDonnell Douglas and J.I. Case before joining Twin Disc in Rockford, Illinois where he worked for 43 years. He has been a member of the Rockford University Club since 1943.
Mr. Tyrrell was predeceased by his loving wife, Marcia.
He is survived by his three daughters, Julie (Kevin) McLaughlin, Susan (Thomas) Richards, and Ann (T.J.) Corbin, five grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, one great grandchild and five step great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Mary (Richard) Myers of Lake Geneva, WI.
Pierce's grandfather, Dr. Pierce Tyrrell, bought property on Fontana's lakefront in 1891 where he had a home constructed. In later years, the house was sold and eventually became Chucks Lakeshore Inn.
Family and friends will gather Saturday, August 29, 2015 at St. Benedict Church, 137 Dewey Ave., Fontana, WI from 9:15 am until the time of the memorial mass 10:00 am. A private family inurnment will take place at the Bluff City Cemetery, Elgin Il. at a later time.
