Richard Berschot

Richard L. Van Berschot (‘'Van"), 74 years of age, was born on December 2nd 1938 and passed away on April 28th 2013. A private interment will be held at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery on May 17th with full military honors, followed by a memorial service held at Sax-Tiedemann Funeral Home on Saturday May 18th from 3 PM until 6 PM. At a young age, Rich was fascinated with electronics and by the time he was a teenager he opened a television repair business with a friend. Upon graduating from high school Rich earned a degree in electronics from DeVry Technical Institute. Rich served in the U.S. Army from 1962-1964. He was an Expert Rifleman and awarded a Medal of Good Conduct. Upon discharge from the Army, he embarked on a lifelong career in the field of electronics spending many years as a mobile phone technician for companies such as OKI, Cellular One, and Verizon. Rich enjoyed camping with his family forming many fond memories still shared today. Rich was a motorcycle enthusiast and rode for many years with the BMW Club as well as Riders for the Son, a Christian motorcycle group. Rich also enjoyed his time at the shooting range with his wife and friends. He volunteered his time to the Emergency Services and Disaster Agency of Franklin Park, Illinois, repairing radios and donated monetarily to Christian ministries. Rich is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Hazel, whom he remained devoted to until his passing. Rich was a loving father and leaves behind his three children; Richard T. Van Berschot, Suzanne Husted and Sharon Vittori and his grandchildren; Leland Thomas, Jenny Lisette, Grace Laur'en, Hannah Loralee, Lucas Paul, Joshua, Mark, Jessica, and Cody .
