Robert William Diederich, 81, of Spring Hill, Florida, passed away on May 3, 2024, with his family lovingly by his side.
Robert was born on December 26, 1942, to Dorothy and William Diederich in Chicago, Illinois.
A 1961 graduate of East Leyden High School, he enlisted in the United States Navy where he served 2 years active duty and 4 years in the reserves.
He went on to earn a degree at DeVry technical College and used it to pursue a career as a Quality Control Engineer, working at Motorola, Zenith Essilor, and Mercury Medical until retiring at age 77.
In 1961, during his senior year of high school, he met his future bride, Darlene (Zurek) in social studies class and they were inseparable until the end.
Robert (Bob) was preceded in death by his parents Dorothy and William Diederich and his loving sister, Carole Petersen.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Darlene, his daughter Cheryl Roderick (James), and son Robert Diederich (Janette Blair).
He was respectfully and lovingly called Pa by his grandchildren James Feret (Lizzy White), Jacqueline Feret (Sean O Malley), Christopher Downs (Cassie Thompson) (Kylee Downs), Zackary Roderick (Taelor), Robert (Robbie) Diederich, and great grandfather to Connor Feret.
He was the uncle to Robert Zurek (Kim), Deborah Reid (Robert), Donna Petersen Mallett, Darlene Decanio, Kimberly Petersen Pomp (Greg), Kathie Spies (Al), and Brian Petersen (Josette).
Services will be held on Wednesday May 15, 2024, from 3:00pm until 8:00pm, at Sax-Tiedemann Funeral Home, 9568 Belmont Avenue, Franklin Park, IL, 60131.
Funeral will take place on Thursday, May 16, 2024, 10:00am, at All Saints Cathedral, 9201 W. Higgins Road, Chicago, IL, 60631.
Bob will be remembered for his devotion to his family, his hard work ethics, his quick-witted sense of humor, and his perseverance.
He carried himself with strength and dignity until his very last breath.
He was a true hero.
