Robert H. Schenke Jr.
January 29, 1948 - February 29, 2024
Franklin Park
Bob “Boomer” Schenke, a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and proud Veteran of the Vietnam War, passed away peacefully on February 29, 2024, surrounded by his family. He was 76 years old.
Bob lived a life filled with love, laughter, and service to his country. He is survived by his devoted wife, Kathy Schenke, his children, Deborah (Todd) Emperado, Laura Schenke, Kevin (Karrie) Schenke, and Marisa Schenke, as well as his stepson, Steve Barba. He was a cherished grandfather to Nathan, Ryan, Jonathan, and Owen.
Bob served his country, enlisting in the United States Navy on April 14, 1967. While aboard the USS Kitty Hawk during the Vietnam War, he bravely served as an Aviation Boatswain's Mate Third Class (ABF3). He was Honorably Discharged on April 13, 1973.
A passionate Chicago Cubs fan, he reveled in their historic World Series victory in 2016, the first time in 108 years, joking that he could finally rest easy knowing he witnessed the impossible. He also had a knack for delivering corny jokes that never failed to elicit laughter from those around him. His quick wit and playful spirit brought joy to countless gatherings and will be fondly remembered by all who had the pleasure (or displeasure) of hearing his jokes.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert H. Schenke Sr. and Barbara Schenke. He is the brother of the late Dorothy (Gus) Siapkaris. He is survived by his sister, Carole Thorpe (Jeff Mozek), and brother, Bill (Peggy) Schenke. Along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will cherish his memory.
Though he may no longer be with us, Bob’s laughter and love will echo in our hearts forever. May his spirit continue to bring joy to those he touched, and may he rest in peace, knowing he left behind a legacy of laughter and love.
