Ruth Philip

Ruth “Sally” Martha Philip St. Charles – Ruth S. Philip, more commonly known as Sally, age 86, peacefully entered eternal life on August 26, 2014, while under hospice care in her daughter's home in Normal, Illinois. Ruth was born in Elmwood Park on January 1, 1928, and was the daughter of the late Sigurd and Ruth (nee Petersen) Engmann. Ruth was a former employee of Work Area Protection Corporation in St. Charles, where she worked as an office manager, until she retired in 1997. Ruth loved people and animals, making sure that every relative and friend got a birthday card. Additionally, she donated to multiple funds for domestic and wild animals. She also liked to travel, making multiple trips to Europe and especially Norway, which is the country from which her parents immigrated. Her generosity, bright outlook and caring for others are gifts that will be greatly missed. She was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in St. Charles. Her memory lives on through her family; children: Dawn (David) Urewicz and David (Thuan) Philip; granddaughter Deborah (Gregory) Kocourek and great grandson, Wolfgang Kocourek. Other survivors include a brother Larry Engmann (Edwina), sister Nancy (Edwin) Ceragioli, half sister Anita Seitz, and many nieces and nephews. Ruth was preceded in death by her brothers Henry and Stanley Engmann. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 6, 2014, in St. Charles at Bethlehem Lutheran Church with visitation beginning at 10 a.m. A luncheon at the church will follow. Pastor Sarah Rohde will officiate. Following lunch there will be an inurnment at Mount Emblem Cemetery, 520 E. Grand Ave., Elmhurst. Memorial contributions may be made to Bethlehem Lutheran Church (St. Charles, IL), National Wildlife Foundation, or Anderson Animal Shelter (South Elgin, IL).
